A perfect destination that provides adventure along comes to the lushness of the flower-decked meadows. If you haven’t put this on your bucket list you will now because it’s great for my beginner trekker friends out there.
Not a staple trekking spot therefore you get to enjoy the most impressive and glorious meadows in India, the snowfalls. This trek will showcase that trekking skill that you had in you all this while. This idealised trek stands at an altitude of almost 3050 meters above sea level and is considered the best for long family weekends where one passes through thick dense forests and open areas at different places.

Several stories revolve around the fact of how this place became an ideal destination for beginner trekkers. For hundreds of years, shepherds have been taking their flock to graze at Dayara Bugyal. Time and again, they have come back with stories of the abundance of fresh, soft grass and the splendour of the mighty Himalayan mountain peaks cradling the meadows they are exactly as the shepherds described – only, more alluring. With splendid mountain views and clear water bodies strewn across the meadows, this trek gets the award of being one of the best treks in India.
Snow covered Himalyas
Winters, December to March is considered the best time to do this trek and why so? Because the trails sparkle with pristine snow. The far-reaching view of the Himalayas from Dayara Bugyal is breathtaking. The Bugyal gets entirely covered in snow as it appears as tiny shining diamonds scattered all over the ground. As far as the eye can look, there is a sheet of white cover, and the temperature drops down to -5 degrees making it the absolute favourite of the winter lovers. With every step on this trail, you will be awestruck and mesmerised by the aesthetic beauty of this location. It’s considered an easy trek and therefore perfect for beginners but is an absolute favourite of the avid trekker as well, it’s less crowded.
The meadows are lush in summer
April arrives, melting away the snow from the meadows turning those tiny shining diamonds into droplets of pearl glorifying their essence to the very best. making way for fresh, soft grass. Trekking through the green meadows as the sun shines is one of the best experiences you’ll have while trekking. Towards the end of May, the meadows are filled with flowers. This flowerbed is a pleasure to trek in till the end of June.
Dayara Bugyal in Monsoon Season
The least recommended time to visit the destination because of its high elevation receives plenty of rainfall therefore can make the trek very risky. The area is prone to landslides and most probably gets traffic while travelling.
How to Reach Dayara Bugyal
Dayara Bugyal is well connected with most of the important towns and cities of Uttarakhand. Reaching this spectacular trekking site is not challenging as it is accessible via all modes of transport i.e. airways, railways, and roadways. Selecting the best mode of transport entirely depends upon your travel preference and your budget.
By Air- Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is considered to be the nearest airport to Dayara Bugyal. Getting road transport from the airport is quite easy as there are both private as well as public transport services available.
By Rail- If you are planning to come by train then reaching New Delhi Railway Station first would be more convenient. Book a ticket on the Nanda Devi Express train from New Delhi and reach Haridwar Railway Station by 4 am. Catch a bus or hire a personal taxi for Barsu village, the starting point of the Dayara Bugyal trek.
By Road- Getting a bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate in New Delhi is very easy as regular buses are plying from here. It almost takes 6 hours to cover the distance between the two states.
Dayara Bugyal trekking begins in Barsu village. Hikers can enjoy the beautiful views of the flowing streams, where they can stop and gaze at the views.
