Be Clear on When to See a Fertility Specialist

You have decided to become parents after enjoying your married life for a certain period. It is possible that you may succeed in your parenthood journey as you start moving towards it after making a plan for it. However, some of you might have to struggle a lot. You should see a specialist at a fertility clinic in Delhi or your locality when your efforts do not bear fruits. Here is more on when you should see a fertility specialist:

1. You think you may have PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome)

PCOS is one of the significant causes of infertility in women. As a hormonal disorder, it interrupts ovulation and alters its timing. Regular ovulation is crucial for a woman willing to conceive. Fertility experts can treat this hormonal disorder with the administration of injectable or oral drugs and facilitate a female to have pregnancy. You must visit a gynaecologist or fertility doctor if you have irregular periods.

2. You age more than 35 years

Age matters a lot in conception. After 35, fertility in males and females starts going down. Due to ageing, females have ovarian reserve issues and poor quality eggs. With age, men have a decline in their sperm count, motility, and shape. So, you should rush to a fertility specialist if you, your spouse, or both of you are over 35.

3. No conception after your effort for more than 6-12 months

Infertility, an inability to produce a child, can happen to people of any community, religion, sex, and age due to genetic, environmental, or reproductive factors. If you have no positive outputs from making frequent, timed, and unprotected love to each other for a year, consult a fertility specialist. The time is 6 months for you if you, your spouse, or both of you are above 35 years of age.

4. Doctor consultation is a must if you are over 40 and try to expand your family

Usually, infertility in males and females starts after 35. After 40, you or your partner have other health issues. So, you should consult a doctor before you start working on your family expansion plan.

5. Faced more than 2 miscarriages in a row

Usually, females have miscarriages due to complications in egg implantation or abnormalities in the fertilised eggs. There are possibilities of other issues you might not be aware of. You should not make any delay in seeing a fertility specialist if you have faced more than 2 miscarriages consistently.

6. If you notice infertility or allied symptoms

As a woman, you must consult an expert as you notice irregular periods, pain while having sex, hormonal changes painful/heavy periods, or no periods. On the other hand, you (as a man) see a fertility specialist when you notice lower sperm count, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation issues, low libido, and testicle swelling/pain.

7. If you have endometriosis

In this situation, your uterine lining process takes another way such as the fallopian tubes and ovaries instead of the uterus. Due to this, you have a conception delay or you have not become pregnant. You should visit a doctor if you don’t conceive through conventional methods. The doctor will correct the issues if found in screening tests. And you can conceive thereafter.

8. Treat thyroid before working on your family expansion plan

If you have thyroid and want to expand your family, you should see a fertility specialist and seek his/her help in your parenthood journey. In general, 60% of women with thyroid have no idea about this health condition. Low levels of thyroid hormones can interrupt your menstrual cycle. As a result, you have ovulation disorders. And you can’t conceive. The doctor will help you manage thyroid and facilitate you getting pregnant.

9. You have STIs or chronic health issues

Sexually transmitted infections (herpes, gonorrea, etc.) and chronic health issues such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and genetic disorders can create problems in your parenthood journey. You should consult a doctor to get the requisite tests/screenings done before you plan your parenthood journey.

Take away

Infertility can be a barrier in your family expansion plan. Further, your age, health issues, and genetic issues can trigger your problems. You should see a fertility specialist when your conventional conception methods are fruitless.
